Travel Radiologic Technologist Jobs

Travel rad techs must have imaging expertise and know how to operate a variety of machinery. Since you will need to adjust to different locations, you will need to be adaptable and be ready to collaborate with people you don’t know. Travel rad techs must also know safety protocols to ensure that they, patients, and colleagues are safe around imaging equipment.

If you choose to get a degree, you can spend two to four years in school. Although you can become a rad tech with only an associate degree, more employers are looking for further education. 

After getting your degree and earning certification, you will need to get experience before you can become a travel rad tech. That usually means a year or two of working as a local rad tech. The minimum time reaching your goal will take, then, is about four years.

Travel rad techs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, outpatient centers, clinics, and doctor’s offices. 

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that California and Oregon pay the best salaries to radiologic technologists. Keep in mind, however, that your experience level, whether you have advanced degrees, and whether you have additional certifications will all impact how much you get paid.

To become a travel radiology technologist, you typically need certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), state-specific licenses, and usually 12-24 months of recent experience in your specialty. Additionally, maintaining multiple state licenses can increase job opportunities and earning potential in the travel rad tech field.
