Each year during Allied Health Professions Week, celebrated during the first full week in November, Team Prolink takes the opportunity to highlight the instrumental role played by allied health professionals in delivering a high standard of care to our communities. According to the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP), professionals classified under the broad umbrella of allied health comprise up to 60% of the U.S. healthcare workforce. In fact, UT Health San Antonio notes that more than 12 million individuals work in over 200 allied health disciplines nationwide.
Allied health professions span a diverse range of positions and functions: From imaging technicians who aid in the diagnostic process, to medical laboratory scientists who analyze patient specimens and deliver results, to respiratory therapists who manage breathing support for patients with acute or chronic conditions, and many more. While much of the attention in healthcare often centers on physicians and nurses, the allied health team enables crucial diagnostics, therapy, rehabilitation, and prevention services that keep the system functioning efficiently.
Allied Health Professions Week is special to us at Prolink because we know vital these roles are to the continuity, quality, and responsiveness of care. Allied health professionals enable the broader care team to operate at full capacity—reducing bottlenecks, increasing throughput of diagnostics and therapy, and supporting patient recovery and wellness in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Simply put, allied professionals keep healthcare moving.
To all our Prolink allied professionals, and every allied clinician in the industry—thank you. We’re proud to support and put care in motion with you this and every week.
