Responsibilities:
Participate in pulmonary rehabilitation programs with patients to help them learn how to manage their condition or symptoms
-Teach patients about medications and their side effects, and instructing them on how to take their medications properly
-Monitor the condition of patients during the course of treatment to ensure that they are responding to treatment as expected
-Record patients’ vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure at regular intervals throughout the day
-Perform diagnostic tests such as X-rays, cultures, sputum analysis, and lung function tests to diagnose a patient’s condition
-Determine the proper course of treatment for patients with chronic pulmonary conditions such as asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, and pneumonia
-Prepare and administering medications, including inhalers and nebulizers, to patients with breathing problems
-Educate patients on how to recognize when they need medical attention and how to manage their condition at home
-Record patient information in medical records and physician’s charts, such as weight, height, pulse rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels
Internal Pay Scale Range:
$36.00 - New Grad, pay will increase based on experience and internal equity.
Must Haves:
License: IL RN license
Certification: CPR/BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Experience: 1 year of med/surg experience required.
Education: BSN or higher in Nursing.
*If Associates Degree in Nursing is the highest degree held, must graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date (effective September 1, 2021).

Beds: 28
Patient Population: Adult; Pulmonary unit also has a general med/surg population
Common Diagnoses: COPD, pneumonia, chest tubes, tracheostomy, and other lung conditions
Average number of admits per day or week: TBD - new unit unsure of current volume
Nurse to Patient Ratio: TBD - Ideal 1-4 or 1-5
