Stronger Mentorship, Stronger Workforce: Utilizing Travel Nurses in Preceptor Programs

February 20, 2025

Discussions of the ongoing nursing shortage are typically focused on the need to improve aspects of the profession and the work environment that may lead to turnover. Equally impactful to the improvement of the shortage are pipeline considerations. It is critical to ensure that adequate numbers of newly licensed Registered Nurses (NLRNs) are successfully entering the workforce.

The current and future predicted shortages of these critical workers is largely due to the retirement of experienced workers and a lack of qualified instructors, clinical placements, and clinical preceptors. To help address the issue, Prolink piloted a program that employs travel nurses as clinical preceptors. Prolink partnered with a large acute care hospital in the Pacific Northwest to engage travel nurses as student nurse preceptors and explore student and faculty perceptions of the success of this innovative practice.

To learn more about the results of the partnership, student feedback, and the impact of travel preceptors on placements, download our free whitepaper below.
