RN - Sky Suite Child & Adolescent Unit - MD job in Towson, MD
The Child Unit is a crisis stabilization unit; children generally come here when they are struggling or experiencing a crisis at home, in the community, or at school, and are a danger to themselves or others.
While in our care, children quickly come to understand that they are in a safe, warm, welcoming environment, and are encouraged to talk about any problems and behaviors that are troubling them.
During each child’s stay, we focus on crisis stabilization so that the child can transition back into their home community as quickly as is safely possible. The average length of stay on the Child Unit is 10 to 14 days.
Shift/Hours:
Multiple Shifts available to include Day/Evening and Night shifts.
Compensation:
Pay: Starting at $32/hr.
Sign On Bonus: $6,000 for RN's.
Requirements:
License: MA RN License
Certification: AHA approved Basic Life Support/CPR certification
Experience: New Grads Accepted.
Education: Associate's Degree
Preferred:
Prefer psych experience. May prefer a more experienced nurse will still consider a new grad.
About the Unit:
# of beds: 20
Patient population: Males aged 5-11 and Females aged 5-12.
Common Diagnoses: DMDD, ADHD, ODD, Adjustment d/o, variety of behavioral challenges and diagnoses on our unit; many have a mood disorder such as disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, or externalizing disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and oppositional defiant disorder.
Nurse to patient ratio: 2-3 nurses on day and evening shift (average 1:6), 1 nurse on night shift.
Average # of Admissions per day: 0-4
Are there any opportunities for growth? Nurse preceptor training, charge nurse responsibilities, LSCI training
What type of personality works well in this department? Analytical ability, sound nursing knowledge, able to identify the need for assistance/supervision, Must have empathy, lots of patience, and be able to think clearly under stress
