Why did you decided to become a nurse?

I was two years into college as a Chemistry major with intent to be a Pharmacist. I thought more and more about how I wanted to be at the bedside and the frontlines on medicine rather than behind a counter. I applied for nursing school a few short days later and have not regretted my decision yet.

If you could say one thing to the world to make your job easier or better, what would it be?

Be kind. It is such a simple concept but one I often think people forget.

You are in school for your Doctorate of Nursing currently. What led you there?

I have always liked school and I have always had the desire to advance in my career. Shortly after finishing my bachelor’s,  I went back for my Master’s and decided to do that degree in something non-nursing related. I often get asked why I would do that, but I feel an individual needs to have a diverse set of skills. In healthcare, and especially in nursing we play many roles. I obtained my Master’s degree in healthcare administration and it has taught me to look at my job from a leader’s perspective, I am ultimately leading patients to a healthier lifestyle and that degree has helped me hone in on the qualities a leader needs. Just a few short days after completing that degree, I started my Doctorate at Baylor University. I will have my Doctorate in Nursing Practice with a focus in Family Nurse Practitioner. When the degree is completed I would like to explore two routes with it, teaching and clinical practice. I hope to not only be a practicing FNP but also work my way into the education system and teach generations of nurses to come.

What is something you get unreasonably excited about?

Clothing and Ohio State Football. I came home from the hospital in a floral dress and I think my love of clothing started that day. Nothing makes me happier than shopping small boutiques and finding unique clothing items. My closet is quite full! I am also overly obsessed with college football, its not just a few games, it’s a lifestyle. My friends and I travel to at least one Ohio State football away game every year and meet in Columbus to tailgate too. Give me football, a fall day, and an adorable outfit and I am a happy girl!

We’ve been told you are an avid concert goer! What’s the best concert you’ve been to? What was the worst?

This is very difficult to decide but I will say the best single show I have seen is The Killers. I have seen Mumford and Sons and Dave Matthews Band multiple times and they are always amazing as well. I am a Parrot-head though and Jimmy Buffett, and the 10 shows I’ve seen of his, will always have a special place in my heart. The worst, sorry to say was Maroon 5, was not overly impressed with their stage presence. Definitely did not wow me.

If you could spend two years doing whatever you wanted, what would that something be?

Eating my way around the world. I would love to just have a blog of me traveling and eating anything I can find.

So you are a bit of a foodie. What is your favorite style of food? Favorite dish to cook?

Depends on the day! Right now, and most of the time, my favorite is Indian food. I make Tikka Masala for my boyfriend and I quite frequently. We both like anything with lots of spice so Mexican food is up on our list too! The more jalapeños the better.

Tell us a story from when you were a kid. Can be silly, stupid, warm and fuzzy, whatever. Just make it a good one.

I remember when I was like seven I was at church with my grandmother. My uncle was the pastor and he was saying prayer. I knew that when you said Amen the prayer was over. So apparently I felt the prayer was taking way too long so I yelled Amen thinking he would stop talking. My impatience started at a young age. I think I was hungry and wanted to leave for Sunday dinner.
